Moyle Rovers prove too strong for Clonmel Og

County SFC Round 1

County SFC Round 1

Moyle Rovers cruised through this first round County SFC game against Clonmel Og on Saturday evening last, the opening game of a double-header at Clonmel Sportsfield. In the end the 4-16 to 0-5 scoreline just about told the story in itself, the Powerstown/Lisronagh outfit were at a higher level than the town side.

The star performer was as ever, Declan Browne, who contributed 2-7 in 50 minutes of football before being substituted, and he also had a part in both the other green flags raised, goals scored by Sean Carey and Jack Shanahan.

The seemingly harsh dismissal of Moyle Rovers midfielder Niall Fitzgerald in the 35th minute of the game, for a straight red was the other main talking point at the end of a one-sided fixture.

South finalists Moyle Rovers now advance to round two of the County Championship but for Clonmel Og their senior season is at an end and they will have to regroup and emerge a stronger side next year if they are to make up ground on the stronger senior sides in the county.
