The Bridge House Golden minor A football championship game between Eire Óg/Galtee and Golden-Kilfeacle at Golden on Saturday evening provided a feast of goals in a closely contested and entertaining contest, with Eire Og/Galtees winning 5-7 to 4-6.
Although the combination had the opening score, Golden-Kilfeacle raced into the lead with three points and appeared to dominate the game.
However, there was a dramatic change in the tenth minute when Eire Óg/Galtee got two goals from Sean Daly and David Finane in as many minutes and followed up with two points to lead by two goals after seventeen minutes.
A goal by Seanie O’Halloran soon after steadied the ship for Golden and they followed up with a second from Thomas Wade in the twenty-seventh minute, plus a couple of points so that the sides were level at 2-5 each at the interval
While Golden dominated most of the second quarter it was Eire Óg/Galtee who were on top after half-time. Two goals from Stephen O’Dwyer and Darren McGath plus a couple of points put them 4-7 to 2-5 ahead after ten minutes.
Golden didn’t get their first score until the eighteenth minute when Ger Barlow scored after a good run but this was negatived soon after when Gearóid Lukeman scored the combo’s fifth goal. O’Halloran came back with a goal for Golden in the twenty-first minute but all they could get during the remaining minutes was a point so that there were four points between the sides on a scoreline of 5-7 to 4-6 when the final whistle sounded.
