Tipperary will play Clare in the Bord Gais Energy Munster Under 21 hurling championship on Wednesday August 7 at 7.30pm at Semple Stadium.

Tipperary and Clare have met on 25 previous occasions in the under 21 championship with 19 wins for Tipperary, 5 for Clare and one draw in 1984.

They have met in 8 previous finals with 7 wins for Tipp - 1972, 1983, 1985, 1995, 1999, 2008 and 2010. Clare won in 2012. The last final in Thurles between the counties was on July 28, 2010 when Tipp won by 1-22 to 1-17 having led by 1-12 to 1-9 at half time. Tipp’s top scorer was Mikey Heffernan with 1-3. That Tipp team, captained by Padraic Maher, went on to win the All Ireland title as did Clare last year when they had their first Munster final victory over Tipperary. We wish the Tipperary team and management all the best for their preparations and the game.
