Clonmel Commercials open their South Tipperary u-21 football championship campaign with a game against Ballyporeen in Cahir on Saturday.
To date progress has been difficult in the under 21 football championships due largely to the poor ground conditions. However it is hoped that matters will improve to allow this weekend’s programme of four very interesting games to proceed.
Topping the bill are two ties in the O’Donoghue Motor Factors (A) championship. The first of these is between Commercials and Ballyporeen and this game will be staged in Cahir on Saturday at 3 p.m. Commercials will be having their first outing of the campaign and they will be fielding a very strong side against an opposition that will be well geared up for a challenge. It will be a major upset, however, should the Clonmel side fail to confirm their rating as strong favourites.
The big game of the weekend is Sunday’s clash of Ardfinnan and Moyle Rovers in Clonmel Sportsfield at 3 p.m. With many of the Division’s most promising young players on view this looks a game not to be missed. Moyle Rovers are the holders but Ardfinnan were South and County minor champions two years ago and should now be poised to make a formidable challenge for honours in this grade.
The other games scheduled for the weekend will be played on Saturday afternoon. In the Hall Alarms (B) championship Ballingarry and Kilsheelan/Kilcash will be expected to serve up an interesting contest in Kilsheelan at 3 p.m. while in the (C) grade St. Patricks and Grangemockler/Ballyneale will clash at O’Sullivan Park, Ballingarry at 2-30 p.m.
