St Mary’s Hurling Club, Clonmel

St Mary’s Hurling Club children’s Christmas Party that we held jointly with Commercials over the weekend proved to be a great success.

St Mary’s Hurling Club children’s Christmas Party that we held jointly with Commercials over the weekend proved to be a great success.

A big thank you to all those who helped out with the event.

The draw takes place next Friday evening, December 20th. There are many tickets sold that have yet to be returned. Can anybody with ticket stubs please return to John Carew before Friday (along with the money, of course!)

The club extends it sincere sympathy to the wife and family of the late Paddy Nugent of Rathfarnham, Dublin. Paddy played for our minor team in 1947. He retired from the Army with the rank of Lt. Colonel having spent most of his career in Baldonnel. May he rest in peace.

The recent deaths of Pauline Culligan, (nee O’Mahoney) and Moira McGroaty, (nee Hallinan) bring to mind their St. Mary’s connections as both are members of families whose sons lined out with our club in the past.

Pauline’s brother Andy played for our minor team in 1942 and 1943. Her other brother John played hurling with the High School but was more famous as a great halfback with Commercials and Tipperary.

Moira’s father played junior hurling with St. Mary’s in the 1950s. He also lined out with Four-Mile- Water, his native parish, prior to coming in to live in Clonmel.

May they both rest in peace.

Season’s Greetings

Finally, at this time of year we wish Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all our members, players, mentors, parents and all who helped in any small way during the year. Every little counts and is always very much appreciated.
