Eire Óg defeated Galtee Rovers 2-9 to 0-11 in the first game of the Ballinalard Transport Ltd West senior football championship played at Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary on Friday evening. Eire Óg, with the benefit of the breeze led by 1-4 to 0-4 at the interval and scored a second goal immediately on the resumption to give them a substantial lead which they were never to relinquish.
Eire Óg will be pleased with their performance and to have collected two points in their opening game. They got good performances from Michael O’Dwyer and Conor O’Brien in the backs. Eoin Kennedy did well at centrefield and Richard Ryan and Daragh Mooney stood out in the forwards.
Galtee will have felt at half-time that they were well in the game and will probably look back with regret to the concession of a goal so soon after the interval. It gave them a mountain to climb. They were well-served by Andrew Morrissey, Damian Burke, Conor O’Sullivan, Colin Morrissey and Tony Egan.
