The rivalry is one of the fiercest in South Tipp hurling and another close game saw Killenaule edge out the champions by just two points, 3-15 to 3-13.

Relegated Ballybacon-Grange got their intermediate campaign off to a winning start with a 1-22 to 0-13 win over Clonmel side St Mary’s.

In other IHC games, Moyle Rovers beat Grangemockler-Ballyneale 1-13 to 1-8 and Cahir beat Fethard 2-9 to 0-8.
