Thurles Sarsfields created history with their first win in the Munster Club senior hurling championship.

Their victory over holders De La Salle from Waterford in the final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh was also a major tonic for Tipperary hurling.

The 1-21 to 1-16 win was well deserved with Sarsfields putting in a strong finish to close out the match.

The Waterford champions played the entire second half with just fourteen men but battled to the end.

It was a proud moment for captain Padraic Maher when he lifted the coveted provincial cup.

Maher, along with Tipperary team mates Michael Cahill, Lar Corbett and man of the match Pa Bourke made a huge contribution to the Thurles success.
