The 2012 World Handball Championships, in association with Fáilte Ireland, take place between Thursday, October 11 and Sunday October 21 at the Citywest Arena Dublin.

GAA Handball Ireland are very excited to announce that this will be the biggest and most spectacular event in the history of the sport worldwide.

Former Tipperary County Board Chairman and former GAA Trustee and current Chairman of the Semple Stadium Management Committee, Con Hogan form Marlfield, is event controller for the championships and we wish him well for this important and onerous role which he will no doubt fulfil to a very high standard.

There will be a record 2,084 competitors in the biggest International GAA Handball event in history with players from 30 countries competing for world championship titles in 40x20 and One Wall grades. Ireland won 37 World Championship titles last time (2209 in Portland, USA) with 35 players from 19 different counties winning those titles. A 21 court arena has been built by GAA Handball Ireland in The Citywest Arena to host the event. This is the first ever occasion such a project has been undertaken. Over 5,000 people per day are expected to attend the championships.
