Gallant Grange overcome Moycarkey

It all started with a simple training session with Mr Carroll and gradually built up to 5 days a week of flat out training with some help from John Phelan as well. On November 9 it was a wet and miserable day but thank God the pitch in Cashel was fit to play.

The whistle blew and thirty seconds later the mighty Kevin Hogan outsmarted the keeper and drove the ball into the back of the net. That was soon added to by the tremendous Tadhg scoring another goal, followed by the speedy Jack Keating scoring the third goal. As quick as a fox Nicholas had the ball in his hands and scored the fourth goal in the first half.

There was great defending by Bill Fitzgerald and Dára Heffernan who held the Moycarkey forwards back. With a great pep talk we were raring to start the second half. We started off slowly as Moycarkey were putting on a lot of pressure scoring a goal of their own. Grange came back with a superb point by ‘Lightning Lambert’ to start us off.

The movements were God-like. ‘Keats’ came back with a fabulous point. David Richards our inspirational goalkeeper kept the county title in the palms of his hands by saving shots from all angles from the Moycarkey forwards. Dára Heffernan took one for the team with his tackle that nearly caused us to be a man down but gladly he survived his chat with the referee. The mighty Hogan then struck again, this time into the top right hand corner, and three minutes later scored another point.

Super-sub Alex Deegan came on in the last fifteen minutes scoring an amazing goal set up by Tadhg Burke. To finish off the score sheet Kieran Lambert scored the final point of the game. Moycarkey got a free but with eight Grange men on the line; Kieran Lambert saved and cleared his lines well.

Full credit to Moycarkey who pushed Grange every step of the way but it was not to be their day. Grange were delighted to win this Roinn C County title which they last won in 2007.
