The sporting year was finally brought to an end on Friday night last when the club handed out winners medals to the various panels of players successful on the playing fields in 2012.
It has been a memorable year in the club particularly for the teams who trained and played in a determined fashion and thankfully landing just rewards for their commitment and dedication.
The road to glory began way back in March when our U21 footballers led by Jonathan Grogan beat Rockwell/Rosegreen to become West Tipperary champions. Roll on some months and our Junior “B” footballers displayed courage, passion and desire to upset the applecart, defeating red hot favourites Rockwell Rovers on their own patch to make it title number two, captain fantastic Robert White collecting the Junior B Cup. With football the driving force our Intermediates continued the trend seeing off Kickams after a replay to make it title number three, Captain Ross Doyle who enjoyed an impressive season, accepting the cup, with a bit of luck this team could have gone further.
West title number four came when our minor hurlers captained brilliantly by Simon Delaney really marked their arrival on the scene with a gutsy and exceptional performance to beat Clonoulty in the West final.
Let’s not forget our inter county stars. The Tipperary minor footballers captained by Dylan Fitzell retained the Munster Championship defeating Kerry, with Gearoid Slattery also a valued panel member. Tipperary’s minor hurlers matched the minor footballers of 2011 going all the way to defeat Dublin after a replay to claim the All Ireland, with Fitzell central to this success, playing a blinder at centre forward. We also had Simon Delaney involved, just reward for his fantastic displays throughout 2012. A special mention to our friends in the handball club, this too was a memorable year for those who succeeded at the Citywest in the World Championships, well done to all.
Kerry legend Jack O’Shea and Kilkenny star Brian Hogan who mingled amongst the crowd throughout the night were on hand to present each player with their medals. Both Jacko and Brian spoke to the large crowd on the various aspects of success and preparation with Jacko entertaining everyone with a story about a trip to Australia with the compromise Rules team back in the 80’s with Eoin the “Bomber Liston” coming in for a special mention. With the medal ceremony done and dusted, master of ceremonies Ger Slattery thanked the organising committee for making the night a huge success in whatever capacity they helped out he was very grateful. He thanked both Jack O’Shea and Brian Hogan for their time and words of wisdom and to our winning teams from 2012. Finally a special thanks to Alan from the Brian Boru Bar for providing the facilities and a superb meal and to Denis Vahey for his expertise, the highlight a slideshow which was projected onto the big screen with action shots from various club games throughout the year and a nice piece on Jack O’Shea which went down well. So the club can start looking forward to 2013 if we can better 2012 we will be certainly doing well, but no doubt the players of Cashel King Cormacs will give it their all! Thanks to everyone who supported our teams from Juvenile to Senior in both Hurling and football throughout the busy season, we would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year!
