Tipperary went down by a goal, 2-13 to 1-13, in the ladies football Munster intermediate final at Castletownroch on Saturday,
These two teams met previously, in Fraher Field, Dungarvan on June 23 when Waterford won by five points after a close game.
Waterford were first on the field but Tipperary came out to loud cheer by the great support that had made the trip on the day.
Tipperary were first to register a score with a point from Edel Hanley within the first minute and this was followed in the next minute with a goal from Gillian O’Brien.
Waterford won a free and Michelle Ryan placed it over the bar. There was another two points from Waterford’s Curran and Landers before Tipperary could score. Lorraine O’Shea got the ball and ran down the field to score a point. Aoife Landers scored Waterford’s next point while Shona Curran in the 19th minute placed the ball in the back of the net to give Waterford the lead by two points for the first time in the game.
In the 21st minute Edel Hanley levelled the sides again. The scoring remained neck and neck for the last ten minutes of the first half but Waterford went in a point up at half time, 1-7 to 1-6
The second half commenced with a Lorraine O’Shea point within the first minute and again scoring would remain tight with only that single point separating them until the 42nd minute when Gillian O’Brien would increase the margin to two points.
In the 43rd minute Patricia Hickey scored another point from a free giving Tipperary a three point lead but this was to be Tipperary’s last score. Waterford reduced the deficit with two points before an Aileen Wall goal in the 51st minute put Waterford in front for good.
Tipperary had one late chance but Edel Hanley’s goal-bound effort was well saved only to see Waterford sweep up the field to add another point and secure the victory - Waterford 2-13 Tipperary 1-13.
