The minors made it four South titles in a row against Moyle Rovers on Friday night last, under the lights in Ballyporeen, winning 2-11 to 0-8.
Commercials led by seven points to one after 18 minutes and wasted a few chances to extend their lead. Moyle Rovers though rallied after this and three unanswered points in the closing stages of the half narrowed the gap to just two points at the break, thanks in the main to some good fielding from Shane Lonergan.
Stephen Kelly at wing forward was causing problems as was Paudie White whose pace on the ball was a constant problem to Moyle Rovers. Liam Ryan at corner back was terrific and his brave block, saved a likely goal in the dying minutes before the half time interval.
Undeniably under pressure in the dying stages of the first half Commercials regrouped at the break and an excellent second half saw the team run out deserving winners in the end.
Second half goals from Paudie White and Michael Nugent were the determining scores in the game and White’s fisted effort after 12 minutes broke Moyle Rovers spirit.
Moyle Rovers were held to just three points in the second period while Commercials racked up 2-4. All of Commercials total of 2-11 came from play, which in itself is an indication of the level of performance.

However, the girls rallied and outscored the opposition on a scoreline of 2-03 to 1-04 for the remainder of the game. This was a very plucky and gutsy performance and the following players shone on the night, Ava Fennessey, Cailín Napier, Aoife McNamara, Ellen O’Connor and Anna Tobin.
Best wishes to Ellen Fahey who suffered a fractured finger on the night.
