It took extra time to decide the game between Aherlow Gaels and Arravale Rovers in the West AIB junior football championship semi-final, played at Cappawhite on Tuesday of last week, with Gaels winning 3-9 to 1-12.
Arravale Rovers were in a comfortable position, four points in front, coming up to the end of normal time but a surge by Aherlow brought them level, the equalising point scored by substitute, Stephen Moloney. The score at this stage was 1-8 to 0-11. Arravale led by 0-7 to 1-3 at the interval
During extra time Aherlow moved ahead with two goals to take a five-point lead, but Brian Glasheen brought it back to two with a penalty before Aherlow had the final score for a three-point margin of victory.
