Cahir beat Aherlow 1-10 to 1-8 in the County Tipperary ladies football intermediate final.
Aherlow after a great run in last year’s All-Ireland Junior club championship (beaten in the final by Sperrin Og from Tyrone) came into this game as favourites. Cahir on the other hand were fielding a very young team and were trying to win this championship at the sixth attempt.
Edel Hanley was the star of the first half with a personal tally of 1-4 for Aherlow. Half time score Aherlow 1-6 Cahir 0-5.
Cahir introduced some fresh legs in the second half and it soon brought them back into contention. With eight minutes left to play Leanne Barrett found the back of the Aherlow net. Ashling Maloney converted a 45m free and followed it up with the final score of the match a pointed free. The fact that Aherlow could only muster two points in the second half is testimony to the pressure put on by Cahir.
County Chairman Tommy Campbell presented the cup to Ann Marie O’Gorman, Cahir captain. Player of the match Louise Grogan, Aherlow goalkeeper, was a popular choice with the majority of the large crowd present. Cahir will play Sneem/Kenmare in the Munster semi-final later in the month.

Junior C final
Galtee Rovers 1-19 Gortnahoe 3-3
Rockwell Rovers G.A.A. field in New Inn was in splendid condition for the playing of the junior C county final between Galtee Rovers and Gorthnahoe. Last year’s junior D champions Galtee were in uncharted waters taking on last year’s beaten junior C finals Gortnahoe. Leading at half time 0-14 to 2-1 Galtee could not afford to relax as Denise Connors at full forward for Gortnahoe was causing them a lot of problems having scored 2-1 from play.
The experience of Claire Carroll and her sister Edith, both members of the County Intermediate team, were the driving force behind this Galtee team. Alison Lonergan, a former county footballer at centre forward for Galtee, was their main scoring threat along with Rachel Bourke and Aoife Magner. Galtees half back line of Danielle Ronan, Kate Quirke and Denise Ryan were in control all through the game.
Gortnahoe to their credit never gave up and Denise Connors was to find the back of the Galtee net again in the second half to give her a personal tally of 3-2 for the game. Gerry O’Hagan, Co Vice Chairman and Fixtures Secretary, presented Alison Lonergan with the Denny Whelan cup.
Galtee Rovers - Trish Healy, Aoife Nugent, Louse Carroll, Denise Ryan, Danielle Ronan, Kate Quirke, Denis Ryan, Edith Carroll, Claire Carroll, Rachel Maloney, Alison Lonergan, Rachel Bourke, Aoife Magner, Sharon O’Brien, Nichole O’Dwyer.
