Cahir Ladies make Senior Debut
Cahir Ladies football team commenced their debut at senior level when they played Cappawhite last Sunday. This was a very youthful Cahir team that took to the field and they acquitted themselves exceptionally well against a very good Cappawhite side. In difficult weather conditions Cahir played very well with a good work ethic and playing with the breeze, cahir went in leading at half time 0-8 to 0-3. On resumption with Cappawhite playing with the breeze Cahir with stood some severe pressure as they were defending heroically. With just three minutes left on the clock Cappawhite got the only goal of the game to level the score Cahir 0-9 Cappawhite 1-6. It was a very encouraging performance by all the Cahir players as they showed some great skill and work rate. It gives a great foundation for the senior team to build on for 2013.
It has been a busy start to the season with our U14, U16 and Senior Teams all in action. On Easter Monday the U14 team participated in the county Feile competition. With only 15 players available on the day and having to play four matches, winning one and losing three they should be proud of how they performed on the day. With a full squad they should not fear anyone in the championship.
The U16s have played Moycarkey, Galtee Rovers, Cappawhite and Templemore in their championship winning all four matches and have reached the semi final stage of the U16A championship.
Our Senior team had their first outing in the league when they took on Cappawhite on Sunday drawing 1-6 to 9 points. This was a great result given Cappawhite have been county senior champions for the past two years.
Cahir will play Moyle Rovers on either Friday or Saturday evening in Cahir in the second round of the league.
The club is well represented on the county teams. Keely Halpin and Grainne Quirke are on the county U16 team. On the county minor team the club is represented by Aisling McCarthy, Emma Buckley, Lorna McEniry, Kirsty Downey and Keely Halpin, Aisling McCarthy is also a member of the county intermediate team.
