Cashel King Cormacs and Golden-Kilfeacle drew 1-9 to 0-12 in the first round of the West Tipperary senior hurling championship

Cashel King Cormacs and Golden-Kilfeacle drew 1-9 to 0-12 in the first round of the West Tipperary senior hurling championship

For most of the game Golden-Kilfeacle had a slight edge on their opponents. They led by a point at the interval and appeared to have greater talent around the field. The only goal came in the 24th minute of the second half and it put Cashel in front for the first time. In the remaining minutes Golden got the extra point in three and a draw was a fitting result to a poor game.

Both sides will probably believe they should have won but the regret will be stronger in Golden, who seemed to have the mastery of the game more than Cashel. They had better hurlers around the field and got good performances from Paddy Ivors, James Hayes, Jim Bob McCarthy, Michael Harding and Josh Hayes.

Both forward lines were weak but Cashel’s was the less threatening. Eddie Walsh and Mickey Coleman tried hard. In the backline Simon Delaney and Lee Burke stood out and John Darmody had his moments.
