Tipperary entered their Intermediate team in the Munster Council sponsored Jim Kennedy Cup ladies football tournament (equivalent of the McGrath Cup in men’s football) for the first time this year.

Tipperary drew Cork senior team, last year’s winners,as their first round opponents, and won 4-12 to 1-4.

Tipperary started well and had four points on the score board thanks to two from Gillian O’Brien, Jane Clancy and Sheelagh Carew one each before Gillian and Sheelagh each found the back of the Cork net. It was hard to recognise any of the faces on this Cork team and not many of their

All-Ireland winning team were to be seen.

Gillian O’Brien added another 1—2 before half time with more points coming from Patrica Hickey, Ashling McCarthy and Jennifer Grant to leave the half

time score Tipperary 3-9 Cork 0-1.

The second half was a much more even affair with both teams scoring 1-4 each. Tipperary scores came from Shauna Ryan 1-1 Gillian O’Brien 0-1 and Ashling McCarthy 0-1.

That all Tipperary scores came from play gives a fair indication as to how much Tipperary dominated this game with only 0-2 points of Cork’s score coming from play and 1-2 from frees.
