This month will see the launch of the new monthly ‘Fethard Sports Achievement Awards’ culminating in an overall yearly award selected from the twelve monthly winners at the end of the year.

Brainchild of Philip Butler, proprietor of Butler’s Sports Bar in Fethard, the aim is to recognise and reward sporting achievement be it at participation, coaching or administration level.

Nominees must be over 18 and from Fethard parish, work in Fethard, live in Fethard (play for Fethard teams) or from Fethard but participate in sport elsewhere.

A steering committee is currently set up comprising of Philip Butler, Mary Godfrey, Anita Manton, Nadine Forde, Joe Kenny, M.J. Croke, Ciarán Treacy, Tomás Keane, Dave Maher, Brian Higgins, Richie O’Brien, Paul Kavanagh and Austin Godfrey.

The sports achievement nominee can be from any sports related event and it is anticipated that, throughout the coming year, many minority sports will by fittingly recognised in our region.

Nominees for January 2013 are now being taken and can be handed in to Philip Butler at Fethard Sports Bar, Main Street, Fethard, before 6pm on Friday, January 25, or emailed to: sportsaward@fethard.com
