On Thursday March 21, Comeragh College, Carrick On Suir defeated Davis College, Mallow in the Munster Vocational Schools ‘B’ Final by 2-8 to 0-4.

The game was played in terrible weather conditions in Ballygiblin, Co Cork.

Poor underfoot conditions, a very cold gale force wind blowing in all directions and rain made it impossible for free flowing hurling. Comeragh College adapted best to the conditions to lead at half time 1-4 to 0-2. The goal was scored by Carrick Swans’ Dean Fitzgerald.

As the second half progressed Comeragh College began to get totally on top in defence and midfield with Carrick Davins’ Kurtis Walsh and Carrick Swan pair Gavin O’Halloran and Jack Cooke winning their individual battles while up front Swans Luke Gahan, Dean Faulkner and Tommy McGrath all did well to stop the ball getting cleared easily.

Ill-discipline nearly left Mallow back into the game with a number of frees moved forward for arguing with the referee but the conditions made it difficult for Glen Kennefick of Davis College and Glen Rovers to capitalise.

With just three minutes left, Jack Cooke’s shot from distance deceived James Buckley of Davis College and Clyda Rovers and went all the way to the net to make it 2-8 to 0-4. A delighted Comeragh College’s captain, Gavin O’ Halloran accepted the cup.
