The Tipperary senior football team to play Down in the GAA football championship round 4 at Mullingar on Saturday shows no changes in personnel from the team which started against Antrim last Saturday.
This is one of Tipperary’s biggest games in years. A team that has struggled to win a championship match in recent years has now won three on the bounce in the qualifiers and a win over Down this weekend would see them through to the heady heights of the All Ireland quarter finals.
It’s a huge test for Tipp against a team with such a glittering championship pedigree.
However Down may not be mentally prepared for such a challenge following the disappointment of their Ulster final defeat to Donegal while Tipp go into the game with those three wins behind them.
Manager Peter Creedon has been preparing his team meticulously for these championship games and the biggest upset of the season to date may still be on the cards.
The Tipp team is - Paul Fitzgerald (Fethard), Andrew Morrissey (Galtee Rovers), Paddy Codd (Killenaule), Ciarán McDonald (Aherlow), Brian Fox (Éire Óg Annacarty), Robbie Kiely (Arravale Rovers), Alan Campbell (Moyle Rovers), George Hannigan (Shannon Rovers), Hugh Coghlan (Portlaoise, Laois), Richie Ryan (Eire Og Annacarty), Philip Austin (Borrisokane) CAPTAIN; Donagh Leahy (Arravale Rovers), Alan Maloney (Rockwell Rovers), Peter Acheson (Moyle Rovers), Michael Quinlivan (Clonmel Commercials).
