Tipperary 3-10

Leitrim 5-7

Tipperary intermediates lost to Leitrim in Borrisoleigh in what turned out to be a game of two halves.

The first half saw the Tipperary playing with the wind and starting the more determined. Within 11 minutes they had notched up three goals and two points, courtesy of some really good flowing play amongst the forwards, with Aisling McCarthy grabbing two goals in the 7th and 9th minutes and Sheelagh Carrew taking her chances with a left footed effort in the 11th minute, which also ended up in the Leitrim net.

The rest of the first half was played out at a less frantic pace, with Tipperary full forward Patricia Hickey taking full advantage of the wind and putting over two long range frees in the 17th and 27th minutes.

Mairead Morrissey and Sheelagh Carrew also added to the Tipperary tally sheet and a well executed run from Niamh Lonergan ended in a point for the wing back on the 30 minute mark.

Leitrim responded late in the first half with a goal, which saw the half time score finish up at Tipperary 3.8 Leitrim 1.3.

The second half saw a reverse of fortunes for the Tipperary girls, which saw an 11 point half time lead chipped away at by the Leitrim girls throughout the second half.

By using the wind to their advantage Leitrim pulled closer and closer and with resolute determination they found the Tipperary net with two late goals in the 59 and 60 minutes.

Tipperary only managed two scores in the second half, a point from play by Patricia Hickey and a last minute free from Sheelagh Carrew. The final score line was Tipperary 3.10 to Leitrim 5.7.
