Boherlahan won the County Junior ‘B’ ladies football title, beating Moyne-Templetuohy in the final at Gortnahoe, 3-14 to 1-4
The score line may suggest a every one-sided game but nothing could be further from the truth. Boherlahan after winning the toss elected to play with the aid of a rather fresh wind. Templetouhy were first on the score board with a point in the first few minutes. Boherlahan were soon on the score board and went into a four point lead. Wave after wave of Templetouhy attacks were repelled by the tenuous defending of the Boherlahan backs.
With ten minutes to half time Boherlahan forwards had a golden spell scoring 1-5 without reply. Half time score 1-10 to 0-1.
As in the first half Templetouhy tried everything to penetrate the last line of Boherlahan’s defence. A number of goal line shots were cleared by the goalkeeper and her full back line in heart stopping excitement. The younger and more energetic Boherlahan girls were starting to wear down Moyne’s defence and soon put the scores on the board to put the game out of their reach.
Great scenes of jubilation were witnessed at the final whistle when the large Boherlahan following rushed in to congratulate their team. Both teams are to be congratulated for playing an open free flowing brand of football and making the referee’s job an easy one.
Our thanks to Paddy Russell and his full complement of officials for adding to the occasion.
Co. Chairman Tommy Campbell when presenting the Vinnie Kennedy Cup to team captain Orla Walsh praised both clubs for their cooperation in setting up this fixture. Player of the match was presented by Biddy Ryan, Co Board Treasure, to Edel O’Dwyer.
Fr. Peter Brennan and Dermot Crosse, managers of Boherlahan, deserve great credit for advancing the football skills of this group of girls. Our thanks to Kieran Slattery and Gortnahoe club for facilitating this final and to the score board personnel for adding to the occasion.
