Congratulations to Rosegreen’s Under 14 hurling team who qualified for the county final next Saturday, with a hard fought victory over Clonakenny last weekend.
This was an extremely tight game with only a goal separating the sides at full time. Rosegreen started the game well and matched Clonakenny in the skills and physicality departments. Rosegreen were awarded plenty of scoreable frees as a result of persistent fouling by the Clonakenny backs.
Rosegreen’s free taker, Colm Hayde, was accurate from the placed balls and ensured that the Village kept their noses in front at all times. Rosegreen’s backs, Kevin Tobin, Kevin Frier, Harry Costello, Jonathon Keating and Harry Tobin ensured that Clonakenny were not going to get any easy scores. They stood to their task well for the whole of the game. Gerard Cummins in goal made some crucial saves and kept the team in the game. T
he mid field partnership of James Walsh (Capt.) and Pairic Ryan worked tirelessly attacking and defending superbly. Our half forward line of Andrew Moloney, Colm Hayde and Jack Costello took the game to Clonakenny at every opportunity and had the backs under constant pressure. The inside forward line of James Ryan and Gavin Moloney gave it everything and had the better of their markers.
The two subs introduced, Tom Dowling and Charlie Costello played their parts in securing a great win. This is the first County Final which a Rosegreen juvenile team has competed in since 1996 so we wish them the very best of luck in the final against Carrick Davins on Saturday next. Please check the fixtures in the sports section to get time and venue.
The Club would like to wish a speedy recovery to Thomas Murphy, a member of the U14 team and hope that he will be at the game at the weekend.
Our Junior Hurling team played out an uneventful draw with Golden on Saturday evening last. This draw now means that we will have to win our remaining two games to qualify for a semi final spot.
The game itself was far from classic stuff. Neither team looked liked they were at 100 percent with Golden slightly better value for money in the second half. Rosegreen scored a couple of fortuitous goals which kept them in contention throughout. Daniel Hayde in the Rosegreen goal pulled off a great save near the end of the game to ensure a point for the Village.
Best for Rosegreen on the night was Jimmy Kelly, Mick Mackey, Vinny Downey and Daniel Hayde however we had no contender for the man of the match position which would surely go to the Golden keeper. The players will have to re-group after this game and assess their commitment and will to win attitude. We will need to be a mile better the next night to have any hope against the Kickhams.
Training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights so all players are expected to attend and increase the effort and intensity or another season will slip away without any rewards.
The Junior football team play in Cappawhite tonight (Wednesday) so a bit of support would be much appreciated.
