Musician becomes Freeman

Clonmel honour for Micheal O Suilleabhain

The Freedom of Clonmel will be conferred on Professor Micheal O'Suilleabhain at a ceremony in Clonmel Town Hall this Friday evening.

He will become the town's 23rd Freeman.

The honour is being accorded to Professor O Suilleabhain in recognition of his national and international achievements as a pianist, composer, recording artist and academic.

The musical maestro grew up in Mitchel Street, Clonmel.

A professor of music at UL, he founded the Irish World Music and Dance Centre.

The honour was last conferred on President Michael D. Higgins in 2012.
