Tipperary Towns ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary Festival’ for 2016 will run this year over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of July. The Festivals official launch took place last Thursday morning at the head offices if it’s corporate sponsor Tipperary Co-op.
Mr Ted O Connor, general manager of Tipperary Co-op said ‘’We are delighted to be supporting the Tipperary Festival again this year, the 5th year in fact since its rejuvenation in 2012. We are at the heart of the community of Tipperary Town and its environs and we always endeavour to support local events and organisations’’
This year’s festival is promising to bring you the best of local and national talent, entertainment, heritage, craft, food and sport over our festival weekend. The three main events of this year’s festival are the vintage, food and craft fair, the finale and crowning of the Pride of Tipperary and the All Ireland Churn Rolling Championships.
The vintage food and craft fair will be held on Saturday the 16th of July in the Market Yard from 10am to 4pm. It will showcase the best of local produce and artisan crafts where you can come along and browse the stalls, see local craft workers at work, sit and enjoy homemade burgers and sausages, pulled pork and homemade fries, ice-cream, homemade cakes, real coffee. There will also be flower arranging demos, a laughter yoga session, Bonnie baby show, Dog show, The Wobbly circus show and workshop and lots more.
The Tipperary stage will feature the best of local talent during the Fair. If you are interested in partaking on the stage or indeed showcasing at this year’s Food and Craft Fair please feel free to contact the organisers.
The Pride of Tipperary is celebrating its 52nd year and continues to grow from strength to strength.
While the Pride events run over two weeks(e.g. fashion show Thursday the 7th and Gala Dinner Tuesday the 12th) the Pride Of Tipperary culminates with the ‘’Long way to Tipperary Festival’’, the highlight being the live on stage interviews and the crowning of the 2016 Pride on Saturday night the 16th of July.
The All-Ireland churn rolling championships take place over the Friday and Saturday nights of the Festival. Since it was re-introduced to the Festival it has gained national and International coverage and interest. This year there are participants from all over Ireland, male and female, who will compete at juvenile, minor and senior level.
To make this year even more special Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, the Voice of Gaelic Games all over the world, will attend to provide live commentary on the quarters, semis and finals for all these events.
This will be such a unique occasion to have his legendary voice echoing down the main street of Tipperary Town.
To enhance this year’s Festival and to provide the ultimate live experience there will be a big screen provided on the main street to show all the live coverage of the churn rolling and all the live festival events on the main street and stage.
This will make every point of viewing on the Main Street an excellent vantage point with live pictures and sound. It will also provide a way of showing what events are happening, the winners of different heats and of course an extra source of showing all the businesses in Tipperary Town that are supporting this year’s Festival.
If further information is required on any of these events please contact would t Brian at the festival office on 062-31244. Or follow the Festival page on Facebook and Twitter.
