Preparations for this year’s ‘Its a long way to Tipperary Festival’’ are underway in the build up to the weekend of the 15th, 16th and 17th of July.

The Pride of Tipperary 2016 was launched at the Tipperary Racecourse last Thursday and training for the All Ireland Churn Rolling is in full swing on by-roads all over the province almost every evening. This year’s festival is sponsored once again by the Tipperary CoOp and one of the many highlights of the Tipperary Festival is the live All-Ireland Churn racing finals with the ‘Voice of GAA’ Míchaél Ó Muircheartaigh providing live commentary.

The Yippee youth music event takes place on Thursday, July 14 at The Times Hotel. The event, organised by young people from Youth Work Ireland Tipperary, celebrates the talented young bands and singer/songwriters in the Town. The Tipperary band, The Sihouettes, who represented Tipperary at the 2016 Irish youth music awards will be performing. This is an alcohol free event with young people aged 12-24 welcome to attend. Admission is €3.

The Tipperary Excel is celebrating its 15th Birthday with a Family Fun day on July 15 at the Tipperary Excel Centre. There will be family entertainment from 2pm to 5pm including a magician, half price cinema tickets, face painting and balloons. There’s also a special added draw to the Excel lotto with a prize fund of €1500 to be won. This free draw is open to all patrons who have bought Excel lotto tickets during the month of July and it will be given away on the day.

There is a Monster Hurling Blitz for U6s,U8s and U10s at the Abbey CBS pitches on Saturday, July 16 from 12pm to 2pm. Please contact Sharon on 087-6824173 for details.

The Tipperary Vintage Animation Team will be on hand all weekend to provide entertainment and colour. They will also provide refreshments on the walk tours at Daltons Heritage Centre in Emmett Street. The Tipperary Vintage Animation team is a Voluntary group whose aim is to bring life to the heritage and history of Tipperary Town by dressing in Vintage costume, supporting and promoting Tipperary Town and its History.

You could also take part in the Canon Hayes 10k/5k Run/Walk on Friday July 15 at 7pm. Registration is €10 on the day or on line at www.runireland.com. Donations from the event go to Pieta House. All Ireland Churn Rolling

The live Finals from 7pm with the ‘Voice of GAA’ Míchaél Ó Muircheartaigh providing live commentary. Street entertainment provided by the ever popular Vintage Rally Group. At 9.30pm we will have the live finale of the Pride of Tipperary Contest.
