The 2016 Pride of Tipperary Festival was launched at Tipperary racecourse last week with nine delightful young ladies stepping up to take part in the two-week festival of events.
The Pride of Tipperary festival is now in its 52nd year, the longest running festival of its kind beside the Rose of Tralee. It attracts young ladies from different backgrounds who have in the past found participation to be a life-transforming experience. “It is a combination of community spirit and volunteerism and of course the continued support of our main sponsors that have helped the Pride of Tipperary festival grow from strength-to-strength each year,” said Chairperson Brian English in his welcoming speech.
This year’s main sponsors are: The Tipperary Racecourse supporters club, the Tipperary Co-op and Aherlow House Hotel. This year’s judging panel is: Joanne Hubbard of Platform Fitness at Ballykisteen Hotel, Hugo Pinto the general Manager at Aherlow House Hotel, Michelle Ryan from Tipperary Racecourse supporters club, Andrew O Neill from the Tipperary Co-op and Laura Jones, previous Chairperson of the Pride Festival.
Every year all the funds raised from the Pride of Tipperary Events are donated to a local charity and this year’s very worthy charity is once again the Circle of Friends Cancer support centre.
“We are delighted to yet again be the beneficiaries of all the Pride events and would encourage as many people to attend the Table Quiz, the Fashion Show and the Gala dinner,” said Circle of Friends Committee member Maeve Lowry. “These events are a great night’s entertainment while supporting a very worthy cause, especially as early next year the Circle of Friends hope to start building their own purpose built centre in Knockanrawley.”
After a photo shoot and welcoming speeches, Louise O’Connell, Treasurer of the Pride committee welcomed the 2016 Pride of Tipperary contestants on stage.
The nine Pride contestants will attend the Tipp’s got Talent shows on Sunday, July 3rd and 10th and a fun Euro Table Quiz in Ian Quinlan’s bar on Tuesday, July 5 at 9pm (table of four €20).
Cecilia Holmen-Lee’s exquisite fashion show takes place in Aherlow House Hotel on Thursday, July 7 at 8pm featuring the very best of local fashions and some special guest models from Circle of Friends. Tickets €20 are available from Joe Whelans, Tipperary Excel and the Circle of Friends Centre. The annual Pride Gala dinner takes place in Aherlow house on Tuesday, July 12 from 6.30pm. A fun penalty shoot out organised by Tipperary Lions Club takes place on Wednesday, July 13 at 7pm in Cooke Park at 7pm and the Pride finale with live interviews and the crowning of the 2016 Pride takes place after the All-Ireland Churn Rolling competition on the Main Street on Saturday, July 16 at 9.30pm. Do go along and support this year’s festival and the Pride contestants in Tipperary Town.
