The Tipperary Excel celebrated its 15th birthday recently with a big party during the Tipperary festival festivities.

There was a magician and face painting for the children as well as photo opportunities with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and the ever-popular Minion.

“This is a special year for the Tipperary Excel serving the people of Tipperary Town, nearby local communities and its loyal patrons,” said Chairperson Kerry Ryan. “The Tipperary Excel Board took the conscious decision to host its family orientated birthday celebrations to coincide with The Tipperary Festival, Pride of Tipperary and 2016 Tipp’s Got Talent. The aim being to highlight the important and pivotal role the Tipperary Excel plays in the daily life of Tipperary Town.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Tipperary Excel has faced many challenges and struggles that have been well documented. Over the last two years, under the guidance of the Board, the Tipperary Excel has undergone a comprehensive, programme for change, that includes operational and financial restructuring that is still ongoing.

“This programme for change aims to deliver on financial security, along with creating and hosting comprehensive arts and cultural programmes, further improving the reputation of the art centre locally, regionally and nationally and last but by no means least enhancing our loyal patron’s experiences,” said Chairperson Kerry Ryan.

The Tipperary Excel is a strong heartbeat in the town and it continues to host a wide programme of events, facilities and services. The Simon Ryan Theatre is one of the largest in the country the centre boasts an art gallery, cinema, dance studio, family research facilities, the Tipperary Dance Residency, The French Quarter Café and the Tourist Office.

“As Chairman of Tipperary Excel I would like to publically acknowledge the great effort made by a great number of people whose collective determination has made this year of celebration possible, namely: the Excel Board (past and present), the Excel team headed up by Mary Leahy Assistant Manager, the Excel volunteers, the friends of the Tipperary Excel, Tipperary County Council, Tipperary Credit Union and all those who have contributed to and donated to the centre over the last 15 years. Here’s to the next 15 years of Arts, Theatre and Culture in Tipperary Town,” added Chairperson Kerry Ryan.
