Teenager charged with assault on Tipperary Town boy (14) is due in court again on Thursday

A 17 year-old youth is due to appear before the district court again on Thursday charged with assaulting and harming a 14 year-old boy in Tipperary Town, who remains in a critical condition in hospital. 

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons as he is a juvenile, appeared before a special sitting of Cashel District Court on Sunday morning. 

A small crowd of people gathered at Cashel Courthouse for the brief hearing. 

He is charged with assaulting and harming the 14 year boy in Tipperary Town  last Thursday night, November 9. 

Evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given at the court hearing and Judge Terence Finn remanded the teenage in custody to appeal again before the district court this Thursday, November 16. 

A Tipperary Town Garda Station spokesman said the 14 year-old boy remains in a critical condition in South Tipperary General Hospital where he was brought by ambulance after he was discovered injured in the Lakelands area of Tipperary shortly before 11pm last Thursday. 

The 14 year-old is from a highly respected family in Tipperary Town. Prayers were offered for his safe recovery at Masses in Tipperary Town over the weekend.
