Safety concerns mount over Clonmel lake amenity area

A car that veered off the road at Marlfield Lake almost ended up in the lake.

Concerns are mounting over the safety of walkers and motorists in the vicinity of Marlfield Lake outside Clonmel.

Residents have called on Tipperary County Council to finally listen to them after repeated efforts to persuade the authority to introduce traffic calming measures in the area have not been acted upon.

"This is a very popular walking area for parents and children. There have been a number of incidents recently,we are very worried about the situation and would like the council to act  on the safety measures we have been asking them to implement"  said Bernard Lennon  Secretary of Marlfield Villiage Committee.

The group has not made any progress in its attempts to get the council to introduce  ramps, traffic calming measures, lane control  or  any other concepts that would make the area safer for pedestrians and motorists.

"The council is not taking our concerns on board. It is an exceptionally walked area and it should be made safer," insisted Bernard Lennon.
