Christmas Food Appeal in Clonmel makes a real difference to the needy

Lions Club Food Appeal

The Lions Club Christmas Food Appeal in Clonmel is being held at Dunnes Stores, Oakville and Davis Road on December 1st and 2nd and Tesco on December 8th, 9th and 10th

For many years Clonmel Lions Club, in common with Lions clubs throughout the country, has made sure that the less well-off in society are not forgotten at Christmas time.

The club appeals for assistance from the community every year at this time.

This year it is making a special appeal to the people of the town and surrounding areas to come along to Dunnes Stores at Oakville and Davis Road in Clonmel on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December and to Tesco on Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December and support to the club's Food Appeal.

Clonmel Lions Club president Michael O’Brien said this week, “we will accept all donations of non-perishable food items for distribution in food hampers for worthy recipients carefully vetted by the Lions Club. These hampers will be delivered in good time for Christmas.

“The Lions Clubs of Ireland have an outstanding track record in collecting food for this appeal,” Michael said, “and we can guarantee members of the public that all food collected will be distributed locally and will go to those who simply can’t make ends meet, for reasons beyond their control”

Clonmel Lions Club thanks the supermarkets for their continued support and also Clonmel Red Cross and St. Vincent de Paul for their invaluable help in the distribution of the hampers.

Anyone who would like to apply for assistance is invited to make their application in writing stating their full name, full address, contact phone number and the number of people in their household, including adults and children.

Applications marked “Lions Club” must be placed in the box provided and located in the foyer of the Tipperary County Council Civic Offices, Emmet Street, Clonmel.

Applications are now being accepted up to noon on Friday 8th December. The club regrets that it cannot accept any applications made after this time.

All applications are treated in the strictest confidence.
