Gardai arrested two men in connection with €15,000 worth of heroin and speed found in searches of two houses in Clonmel and Mullinahone over the past week.

The €10,000 worth of heroin discovered in the search of a house at Wilderness Grove, Clonmel was described as the largest ever seizure of heroin in the Tipperary Garda Division.

The heroin was found by a team of gardai from the Divisional Drugs Unit and Clonmel Garda Station, who executed a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act on the house at 6.45pm last Thursday, February 4.

A similar search operation was carried out by local and Drugs Unit gardai on a house at Ballydonnell, Mullinahone at midday last Saturday and €5,000 worth of amphetamines, commonly known as speed, was found.

Sgt. Tom Duggan of Clonmel Garda Station said a Clonmel man aged in his 20s was arrested in connection with the heroin find and the man, arrested in connection with the Mullinahone drugs find was also aged in his 20s and from the local area.

Both were detained for questioning at Clonmel Garda Station and were later released without charge.

A file on the cases is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
