Everyone must play part in Tidy Towns

This green fingered group from Siolta Nua in Cahir have been busy helping out with the local Tidy Towns, working on the beds at the Mill Cottages.
Last week was a hectic week after opening the Memorial Garden and trying to tidy up the bits and pieces. We were then faced with preparing an entry form for this year’s competition and with the deadline looming midweek it was all systems go!

There was no rest for the troops on Wednesday night as they hit the ground running by weeding on the Tipperary Road and the Square. Painting also commenced on the Mall of the railing and some new grit was laid on the path. We have also some wildflower starting to peep inside the railing and should look well in a month’s time.

The Brothers of Charity have been doing great work on the bed at the Mill Cottages and even their disabilities are not stopping them from showing some community spirit.

The Gateway Training bed at the entrance to Cahir Business Park was also weeded and is starting to bloom
also.

Anyone with hanging baskets will have to be patient as the plants are a bit behind this year with the weather. We have also got to look forward to planting the beds on the Tipp Road with some permanent shrubs and some in the square with a bit of colour.

We can expect judging anytime after the bank holiday and we are asking everyone to play their part in trying to help achieve extra marks. Painting, washing and litter and weeds are the pet hates for the coming months.

Meet as usual on Wednesday at 7pm.

Dolan’s Super Valu are running a colouring competition for under 12s and colouring sheets can be collected at the checkouts. They have also a number of clean up starter packs for any groups arranging a clean up in their area on a first come basis.
