Eircom report that following further severe winds, heavy rainfall and lightning storms overnight, over 7,500 eircom customers are without telephone and broadband service.
With further bad weather predicted they expect this figure to rise further.
“The impact on our network is widespread but the worst impacted areas are Cork, Galway, Mayo, Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford. Working conditions in many areas of the country remain extremely difficult as a result of the dangerously high winds and lightning. These conditions are hampering our repair efforts in some areas of the country”, they say.
The company add - “We restored service to 2,250 customers between Christmas Eve and St Stephen’s Day and we have 700 crews working today to restore service to affected customers.
“With forecasters predicting continued bad weather for the coming days, we would like to reassure customers we are doing everything possible to repair faults as quickly as possible. We ask customers to be patient as we work to repair all faults in very challenging weather conditions.
“Customers are encouraged to log their fault on the “Log a Fault” section of our website www.eircom.ie/logafault or through our customer service line 1901. Faults can be reported to either service 24 hours a day, seven days week.
