Fethard ‘Text Alert Scheme’ projects resume

Now that there’s an obvious stretch in the evenings, Fethard & Killusty Community Council will resume their Community Text Alert project in the town vicinity and adjoining areas outside town that are not already covered.

Now that there’s an obvious stretch in the evenings, Fethard & Killusty Community Council will resume their Community Text Alert project in the town vicinity and adjoining areas outside town that are not already covered.

Local residents who were not contacted so far in Fethard will be contacted over the coming weeks. The ‘sign-up forms’ for the new Community Text Alert Scheme are also available for collection from the Community Office in Barrack Street. This scheme, to help combat crime, is supported by Muintir na Tire and the Garda Síochána and is now operative in the Killusty area and surrounding communities.

We are now looking for volunteers to help distribute and collect ‘sign-up’ forms for the remaining countryside roads linking up with other parishes already joined, such as the Moyglass Road, Cahir Road, Redcity and Cashel Road.

NO OBLIGATION TO JOIN BUT.....

There is no obligation to join but it is highly recommended that as many people as possible do. The form will ask for your consent to use your mobile phone for receiving ‘Text Alerts’ when deemed necessary by the monitoring area headquarters. This will warn you of suspicious activity or potential criminals approaching or in the Fethard area.

This very useful information is gathered by all communities reporting suspicious activity in their area and reporting the information to the Gardai by calling the 24 hour manned Text Alert phone: 0504 25100. This information is then assessed and if decided necessary, a text alert will be sent to all who are signed up to the scheme. In practice this usually only happens a few times per month.

A once off donation, at your discretion, would also be greatly appreciated to help with the local cost of erecting new Text Alert Signs and the on-going cost of the texts themselves.

For further information or request for sign-up forms please contact Joan at Fethard Community Office, Barrack Street Tel: (052) 6131000.
