Vandals strike duck pen

The ducks on the river have been a huge attraction since their arrival 12 months ago and apart from the loose dogs in the river especially at breeding and hatching time it has been a great success, and has been received very well by everyone.

The local angling and gun clubs have been very involved with this project and are worried that the netting will be used for illegal fishing. The Fisheries Board and Gardai have been notified about the damage which took place some time the night of Good Friday.

The estimated cost of the damage was around €500 and is money that will have to be raised to replace the materials.

On a more positive note, Cahir Tidy Towns have started painting the bollards and gates that have been on the list for some time and also did a weeding job in the square. The Railway bed is still open to ideas and the Car Park bed which is in a prime location in the town will be planted this week.

They also have received word that spraying of weeds will commence on Friday (weather permitting) and will be welcome. They plan to continue with their efforts next Wednesday evening at 7pm and once again all are welcome.

Chairman Andy Moloney would like anyone who is interested in getting involved with the weekly group, or those doing work in their own area, to contact him to register their work in the entry form, as you don’t have to attend meetings to be part of Tidy Towns and he will add you to the group text for information on events coming up.

There will be a litter pick blitz next week following the Bank Holiday weekend. For any info on Tidy Towns contact Andy on 086-3609110
