Gardai in Cashel have issued a warning about posing as a detective in the town on Monday.
They say that at approximately 1.15pm at The Green, Cashel a man purporting to be a Detective Garda called to a dwelling house on the pretext of investigating the activity of a suspicious motor vehicle.
Whilst talking to the house holder he inveigled entry by asking for a drink of water and on gaining entry he stole the house holder’s purse which contained a small amount of cash. The theft was noticed some hours after his departure from the house at 1.30pm.
The suspect is described as a male, aged 30 years, of broad build, dark coloured eyes, dark coloured hair cut short, clean shaven and oval face. He was 5ft 9ins. in height and wore a navy overcoat to the knees, dark coloured pants and shoes. His accent was Irish but non-descript.
Gardai urge homeowners not to permit entry to dwellings of any person not known to the householder and always demand to see and check the identification details of any person purporting to work in an official capacity. A request is also made for any information that might lead to the identification of the person in question.
