Local Fine Gael T.D. Tom Hayes has confirmed that over €E40,000 worth of funding has been allocated by the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht for two South Tipperary conservation projects through the Structures at Risk Fund.

“I am pleased to confirm that both the Cappawhite Church and the Tholsel in Fethard are to receive €E15,000 and €E25,500 respectively for restoration and conservation works under this scheme. With the reduction in funding for projects like this in recent years I am happy to see South Tipperary receiving some of the €E500,000 national fund.

“It is extremely important that we recognise that the conservation, preservation and restoration of our built heritage has an economic, cultural and aesthetic benefit to our society, both locally and nationally.

“The purpose of this fund is to assist with works to safeguard structures, in private and civic ownership, protected under the Planning and Development Acts. This year 41 projects in total have been selected to receive funding in 27 local authority areas. I want to congratulate the successful Tipperary projects and wish them all the best as work begins in the near future” said Deputy Hayes.
