High School community were delighted to learn that Saleem Egan is to receive a 2012 All Ireland Scholarship Third Level Education Award (sponsored by JP McManus) based on his 2012 Leaving Certificate results.
The Awards Ceremony is taking place on Saturday 17th November in UL where the special guest is President Bill Clinton. 125 awards presented annually and the value of each scholarship is €6750 in Ireland (100 scholarships) and £5,550 in Northern Ireland (25 scholarships).
We were also delighted to learn that 2 other students, Stephen Heffernan and William McCarthy, are to be presented with Entrance Scholar Awards on Thursday 15th November in UCD. This award is given to 1st year students for their academic achievement (achieved 540 points or more) in the 2012 Leaving Certificate Examination. These are significant achievements by these students and it is great to see their hard work and dedication being acknowledged in such a manner.
Pierce Purcell, Ian Purcell and Tom Quinn ran the Dublin City Marathon on Monday 29th October to help raise funds for the High School – in excess of €2500 has been collected to date
Annual school show (Blue Suede Shoes) took place from 23rd to 26th October (both dates inclusive) in the White Memorial Theatre. Very successful and great feedback from all those who attended.
3rd year parent/teacher meeting took place on Tuesday 23rd October and was very well attended (94% )

Several business projects entered the Dragon’s Den competition and they are: Save A Life Ireland - Tadhg Kenna/Michael Kelly; Daisy goes Crazy - Aaron Kiely; Play It Safe - Brendan Martin and Mark O’Reilly; Dan and Mike’s Ice Cream - Daniel Traas and Michael Barlow; Clinometers - Cormac Hennessy and Niall Hoctor and Weird and Wonderful Worldly Facts - Eoghan Kelly, Diarmuid Keating, Jimmy Dunne, Jason Connolly and James McNamara. 3 projects have been selected to go forward to the regional stage of the competition and they are Play It Safe, Dan and Mike’s Ice Cream and Save A Life Ireland
Peer Ministry interviews (5th years) took place on Friday 9th November and there were more than 60 applicants

Senior gaelic football team played an East Limerick School’s selection on Wednesday 7th November in Corn Uí Mhuirí (Munster championship) in in Ballybricken and lost 1-09 to 0-9. They will play Chorca Dhuibhne (Dingle) on 21st November
Senior hurling team played Castletroy College on Thursday 25th October in the Harty Cup in Golden and drew for the 2nd time in the competition – scoreline was 0 - 9 each. The team are down to play De La Salle (Waterford) on Thursday 15th November in St Molleran’s pitch

1st year “B” county hurling blitz final took place on Tuesday 16th October in Dr Morris Park Thurles and team lost out on final on goal difference

Luke Boland, Aidan Boyle, Ronan Brady, Dylan Cadogan, Akim Farag, Joseph Keane, Ethan Mulvee and Alex Sheehan applied for the Roger Cleary Rugby and French Scholarship 2012-2013. Interviews took place on Wednesday 24th October (interview panel was Sineád Cleary, Brendan Mullan and Tom Fennessey) and the person selected to receive the award was Dylan Cadogan – presented on Awards Day on 26th October. Interview board acknowledged the very high calibre of applicants that had applied for this award
Clonmel Rugby Club are providing a qualified coach (Neville Melbourne who plays with Young Munster) to train High School rugby teams on Mondays and Fridays
The senior basketball team played St Columcille’s (in Dublin) in the “B” All Ireland Cup competition on Thursday 18th October and lost a very competitive match 53 – 49. They are played Rockwell (away) on Friday 9th November
Coaching of basketball players took place over Halloween break when 3 NBA players coached team members on 1st and 2nd November
1st year “A” county hurling blitz final took place on Tuesday 23rd October in Dr Morris Park Thurles and High School reached the final where they were unlucky to lose to Thurles. They defeated Borrisoleigh, Thurles B and Nenagh CBS
A 1st year/under 14 rugby blitz took place on Wednesday 24th October in Clonmel Rugby grounds and the teams involved were: Newtown, Waterpark, Villiers, CBS High School and Pobal Scoil na Trinóide (Youghal).
