Two significant house fires and a shed fire were among the blazes South Tipperary's fire fighters battled over a busy Christmas for the service.

Clonmel Fire was called to house fires at Clerihan on Christmas Eve while the brigades in Cahir and Mitchelstown were summonsed to a house fire in the Skeheenarinky area around 5am on December 27.

Fortunately nobody was injured in either house fire, according to a Fire Service spokesperson.

A unit from Clonmel Fire Station along with a water tanker from Cahir Fire Station also battled a fire that engulfed a shed close to a house at Ballyglasheen on the afternoon of New Year's. The shed was destroyed but the fire fighters succeeded in preventing the blaze from spreading to the house.
