The new six year Clonmel Development Plan has de-zoned 50% of the land in the town and its environs previously zoned for residential development.
That’s what the October meeting of South Tipperary Co. Council was told when the plan came before its elected members for approval.
Fine Gael Cllr Michael Murphy outlined that under the previous development plan, there was in excess of 200 hectares of residential development zoned land in the town and its environs but this new development plan reduced the amount of land zoned for residential development to about 100 hectares.
Cllr Murphy said it was important the remaining 100 hectares was zoned for residential development to meet the expected increase in population during the development plan’s lifetime.
The adoption of the 2013 to 2019 Development Plan was proposed by Cllr Siobhan Ambrose and seconded by Mayor of Clonmel Cllr Pat English.
Cllr Ambrose said there had been several workshops on the plan and absolutely every aspect of it had been discussed at length.
