A CBS secondary school student has won Carrick-on-Suir’s annual Lions Club Youth Award for his work.

Richard Dunphy was one of eight teenagers nominated for the award, and will now represent Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club in the Regional Final.

The other nominees were: Ciara Quinlan of Comeragh College; Shauna Murphy and Eric Diffley of Scouts, representing Scouts; Lauren Power of the Junior Vincent De Paul Conference; Sarah Mee and Daniel Collins, Water Safety and Thomas Power of Foroige.

The judges Mairead Tobin, Michael O’Sullivan and Pat Duggan said they were amazed at the vast amount of voluntary work they were involved in, which made selecting one winner very difficult.

They Youth Award ceremony takes place in the Nano Nagle Community Resource Centre next Monday, November 25.
