The AGM for the 2011 St Patrick's Day Parade was held last Tuesday night in Mikey Ryans.
A minute's silence was held for Catherine McLaughlin before the election of officers took place.
Niall Gregory, last year's secretary stood down because of his commitments to the EU Rural Charter. Sean Laffey with seven years experience of being chairman, now takes over the secretary role, to allow a continuity in communication with participants and sponsors. Sherine Prendergast is the new PRO, and has years of experience with Macra.
John Byrne will take over the role of chairman, this leaves a vacancy for a chief steward for the parade.
Wally Ryan continues as the treasurer of the Parade Committee. Cllr. Louise McLoughlin was elected assistant secretary.
St Patricks Day this year will fall on a Thursday and the aim is to organise the biggest and best parade ever and create a real carnival atmosphere in the town. We hope to have lots of activities organised on the day for all the family. If you are interested in helping to organise the parade or simply interested in just helping out on the day come along to the next meeting which is on next Thursday night, January 27, in the back room of Mikey Ryans at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
