The fun and adventures of the Cahir GAA Field Day are almost upon us!
The activites kick off this Friday, August 26, when Cahir GAA will be holding a buffet dance in Cahir House Hotel. Music will be by Paul Lafford.
The contestants for Miss Cahir GAA will be interviewed at this event and as an added attraction people who attend the dance on the night will get a chance at the end of the interviews to vote for their chosen winner. These votes will go towards 50% of the votes for the girls. Tickets for this event are €10 and can be purchased from any GAA member, or contact Gerardine Hickey at 086/3821953 about this event.
It is also proposed to hold a novelty waltzing competition on the night so remember to bring along your dancing shoes it could be well worth your while!
Cahir GAA field will be buzzing on Sunday next, August 28, from 12.30pm to p.m. for the annual Field Day as part of the Cahir Community Challenge weekend. The main attraction of the day will be the crowning of the Miss Cahir GAA 2011. The winner will receive a crown, trophy and a cheque for €300, second place €will receive E150 and third €50.
There will be many side-shows on display on the Sunday. Moloney’s Duck Farm Poulmucka will be in attendance with a variety of birds for the children to see. This has always been a great attraction for the young and not so young. There will be U.10 & U.8 football matches between clubs from the neighbouring areas.
Side shows on the day will include Long Puck, slippery pole, pony rides, penalty shoot out, novelty races and for the little ones there will be a “Teddy Bears Picnic” area where the children can bring their teddies and have a good time. It is hoped to have an adult novelty relay race during the day which will comprise of four people made up of male and females. This event should be very interesting to watch.
There will be a baby show and it has been decided to also run a pet show comprising of various types of pets. A bric a brac stall will be set up where you can bring any of your unwanted items. If you have anything you wish to dispose of please contact Deirdre McEniry or Breda O’Neill 086/1597719.
This year there will be a handbag and costume jewellery stand for all you fashion lovers. If you wish to get rid of those handbags which have been in your wardrobe for a long time or jewellery that you no longer wear you can drop them in to Margaret O’Connor (086/8774879) or Tara Armitage (086/3896933).
For those who feel a bit peckish on the day there will be a barbecue where you can pick up a tasty burger or a hot dog and of course Cahir GAA field day is well known for the wonderful afternoon tea party area where you can sit and have a cuppa with a delicious homemade confectionary.
There will also be a raffle during the Field Day for two tickets to the Hurling All-Ireland. Tickets for this raffle will cost €2 each.
During the Field Day the finals of the Community Challenge competitions will take place. These will consist of the tug-o-war, obstacle course, scrapheap challenge and it’s a knockout. To wind up a spectacular day we have been promised a wonderful display from the Cahir Majorette troupe whose older members have just returned from performing in Eurodisney Paris in July. This group will then lead the people from the GAA field to the Inch Field where the crazy boat race will be taking place to round off the end of the Cahir Community Challenge week-end at so don’t forget to put the Field Day into your diary as great weekend is definitely guaranteed.
