Get your entries in now because the closing date for the local Tidy Towns competition is Monday, August 13.
It is a bit later this year as the summer was so poor on flowers, according to the local Tidy Towns organisation. Entry forms are available from the Council Office, Enterprise Center or Super Valu at €5 per entry. The categories in the competition are: Hanging Baskets, Best Garden (large and small), Shop Fronts, Estates and Business Premises. Prizes will be announced and presented to the winners at a special function to be held in September.
The total amount collected at last week’s Tidy Towns Church Gate was €1,041.39. This was a great endorsement to the work been carried out by the volunteers of the group. We hope to use some of the funds to draw up a new three-year plan for the town and also provide some more beds with colour around the town.
It was great to see so many wanting to collect at the masses on Saturday and Sunday and a big thanks to you all. There have been other donations during the year and this is money well spent.
We are nearly ready to paint the building on Market Yard which we acquired under a lease from the council, where we can store some bits and carry out work during the winter. There are plans to continue with works into the winter so we can be prepared for next spring and the summer we hope to get.
Thanks again to Wally Costigan for the removal of the graffiti on the Mall.
