Giving Something Back!
Over 300 people participated in the walk from the Rock to the Rugby grounds. This was a huge success! At present we are headed for a figure of E2,500.
We were lead on our walk by none other than Monnie Ryan on his Harley Davidson Motor Bike. Monnie a great supporter of Cashel RFC and had his bike in prestige condition for the day.
Cashel Pipers of Willie Morrissey from Kilfeacle and Larry Flynn of Cashel town were instrumental in the walk and created a huge atmosphere for everybody. We were graced with the attendance of three wonderful guide dogs owners and their guides Sandy from Golden, Tony from Doon and Olive from Lorrha. We had our very supportive stewards to make sure everybody was safe and sound on our venture. Declan Fitzgerald and John Marshal “Traffic Control†were very effective in their duties steering us on the right track!
On arrival to the field we were entertained by those two wonderful girls that run the after school “Den†in Cashel, Ruth and Kate Moloney. They were fantastic in organising the kids in field activities with the finale of Tug of War which was enjoyed by everybody. Kate and Ruth are also involved with New Inn Hockey Club and, with Ellen Davern run Cashel Girls Tag rugby, yes they are very busy! We wish Ruth and her husband Brendan O’Connor all the very best as they are expecting their first child very soon. Ruth and Kate also cater for parties etc you can contact Kate on 0861271147 and Ruth on 0872407343.
We had spot prizes for the sponsorship cards that were given in on the day with 20 prizes to hand out.
This whole event would not have been possible without the support of nine local national schools. A huge thank you to all and most importantly to the children who took part. We also had a draw for a “Play Rugby†pack for all the schools that took part. One of Cashel’s Tag rugby girls Rachel Murphy drew the winning ticket and Rosegreen National School was our winner.
Mags Ferncombe added to the occasion with some face painting - Who knew there were so many fairies and vampires on the loose! Mags also caters for parties and can be contacted on 0861618212.
Ulster Bank Division 2A League
Cashel 26 Highfield 3
Cashel came to life in the second half on Saturday last in Spafield when they started getting the ball in their hands, holding on to it and putting together some decent plays. David McCormack and Giles Boland scored two tries with the boot of Pat O’Connor providing the points from two conversions and penalties.
Cashel will now travel to Galwegians on March 23, with a good win and team performance under their belts.
The U11s had the great honour of playing at the home of Munster Rugby this week. The lucky 12 that got to play were supported by both team mates and parents to the tune of 50 strong not to mention the 15,000 plus crowd!
The match took place at the half time interval with the lads excited to run onto the hallowed turf.
Our boys got to the pace of the game straight away, tackling and rucking as if their very lives depended on it. Then Padraic Brosnan broke through the Newport defence and sprinted half the length of the pitch to score the opening try. This was soon followed by tries from Martin Paul O’Dwyer and Tom Tobin. We kept up our work rate for the whole match keeping Newport at bay. The match finished 3-0 to Cashel.
Thanks to Tony O’Sullivan for all his help in organising what was a great day for the U11s. Also thanks to all at Munster
Rugby for making it a very special day for the boys.
