In Aid of Tir na nOg Orphanage Tanzania, to be held in Bernie Macs, Old Bridge, Friday 8th March at 9pm.

Roisin Prendergast along with 10 other volunteers are going to Tanzania over the Easter period to help in the orphanage.All the volunteers have paid their own flights, accomodation etc.. so every cent raised will go directly to the orphanage.Every cent raised will help.

Loreto Secondary School Spring Concert

As the days lengthen and brighten the Loreto School Community will celebrate the arrival of Spring with an evening of musuc and song.

Dates for your diary; Wednesday 20th March 2013 at 7.30pm School Sports Hall.

The school has a proud tradition of music as the work of the classroom teachers is complemented by private music teachers who provide tuition in Flute, Voice and Piano.

On the night the audience will be treated to a variety of musical traditions and genres, solo and group performances.Ms Breda Geoghegan and Mr Conor Power, Music teachers at Loreto have indicated that there will be performances by the School Orchestra, Junior and Senior Choir and the Trad Groups.

Annually the school also holds a Loretos Got Talent so a number of the finalists will perform their acts and the overall winner, soloist Clodagh Lalor will also perform.

The night sees the launch of a fundraising drive for the school towards enhanced Science and Home Economics facilities.The Board Of Management has sanctioned the development of a new Science Laboratory and a second full sixe Home Economics Kitchen.This will see the school with three fully equipped Science Laboratories and two department standard Home Economic Kitchens to cater for its student population of 520 girls. This work is due to commence this summer .In an era when we can no longer depend on funding from the government it is the responsibility of the parents, staff, students and indeed the whole Loreto School Community to take the initiative to ensure the best possible education facilities for our students.

The Powerstown School Gathering

The Powerstown Nation School Gathering takes place on Saturday evening the 17th August 2013. The gathering /reunion are for all who attended Powerstown School both the old school and later the new school up to the year 1970. The evenings gathering starts wit mass at St John the Baptist Chapel Powerstown at 6.15pm. After mass there will be a visit to Powerstown new school built in 1951 for a trip down memory lane. Many of the roll calls will be on view and you can look up your name as Gaelige. You can try to sit in one of the school desks, look at today’s curriculum and chat with old school friends while music is played in the background by the local musicians. The meal is in Hotel Minella at 8.30pm and a night of music, reminiscences, and great craic is guaranteed as old friends from many parts of Ireland and across the globe meet and share the magic of the gathering together. Flower Club

The next meeting of Clonmel Flower Club will take place on Tuesday March 12 th,2013, at 8.00pm in Hotel Minella,Clonmel.

The titles for the Club Competitions are:-

Beginners: “ Buds, Blooms and Twigs” 60 cm.

Intermediate; “Spring Zing” 60 cm.

Advanced; “ Dressed for Spring” 66cm

New members and guests are always welcome at the meetings. Mrs.Mildred Stokes will give a class for beginners and this is an opportunity to see the basics of simple flower arranging being demonstrated by our very experienced Club President.

The Copper Collection fund-raiser for WAFA continues and all donations for the WAFA sales table are welcome.

The workshop with Eileen OBrien will be held at the April meeting on 9/4/2013 and all details will be available at the March meeting.As the speaker for March had to cancel, we are please to have as our guest, Mr.David Corbett ,who will give a talk on Yoga.This promises to be a interesting evening.
