Spafield Family Resource Centre recently hosted a six week wellness programme called Stop The Stigma.

This project was sponsored by Abbott Vascular with resource material provided by Aware. The objective was to raise awareness to the stigma surrounding mental health and depression and to learn strategies and life skills to support a more balanced view to life. There was an emphasis on communication skills and goal settings. The programme was facilitated primarily by community education tutor and life coach Jackie Kennedy with recreational therapy workshops in stress release provided by Cher Quinlan community development worker /adult education tutor. Spafield Family Resource Centre provided a beautiful holistic learning space and participants felt very comfortable and welcome there each week. This weekly social interaction was invaluable to members of the group who had not previously participated in community programmes. On July 22 certificates were awarded to Pauline Kennedy, Ann Moloney, Pauline Small, Denis Carroll, Agnes Flanagan, Pat O’Dwyer and Philip Taylor.
