Three shotguns were stolen in a burglary of a house in the Ballypatrick area - one of nine homes raided by burglars in the Clonmel Garda District in the past week.

The spate of break-ins has prompted Gardai to appeal to residents in Clonmel and its rural hinterland to step up their home security and watch out for their neighbours.

The most serious break-in was to the house at Knockane, Ballypatrick where the three firearms along with some jewellery were stolen. The burglary occurred betwen 7.40pm and 9.30pm last Thursday, December 5.

Four Clonmel homes were burgled and gardai investigating these crimes urged people living in the Ard na Greine, Davis Road and Summerhill Drive areas of the town to be extra vigilant and contact them if they see any suspicious behaviour.

Cash was stolen from a house in Kilganey near Clonmel between 3.30pm and 7.20pm on December 5 and there were also break-ins to houses at Poulacapple near Mullinahone and Cloneen. A Garda spokesman advised residents to check out home security advice on the Garda website www.garda.ie.
